Composer Alan Menken and actress Ellen Greene performed last night at the New York Film Festival’s world premiere presentation of Little Shop of Horrors: The Director’s Cut. This video is from a different angle than the one I posted before and has the full performance including Menken’s Little Shop medley before “Somewhere That’s Green.”
Absolutely breathtaking. So so so jealous I couldn’t go…
A video I took of Ellen Greene singing Somewhere That’s Green from Little Shop of Horrors with Alan Menken on piano during the New York Film Festival’s presentation of the newly restored director’s cut of the musical.
Alan and Ellen surprised the audience by singing some of the songs from the film/show, with Alan singing Suddenly Seymour, Mean Green Mother From Outer Space,Dentist, and Little Shop of Horrors, then Ellen finished with this song, and cue the standing ovation.
No one quite like Ellen Greene. She’s so one of a kind and amazing. I admit I first knew of her in Pushing Daisies and Heroes, but then I saw the rest of her work and she is just so excellent. And also looking amazing for 61!
I know she has haters so say what you will about her voice, but keep in mind her age and the fact that she always gets emotional when she performs this. I honestly started tearing up at the end, just because of the context of this performance and then I remembered that it was actually Alan Fucking Menken on the piano and oh god the feels I can’t. I wish so much that I could have been there last night, but I’m so glad that someone was able to post this! Thank you!
Can we all just take a minute to appreciate this though.
This is a puppet.
It’s real, this is actually how big it was, and it took 60 people to operate it. Everything had to be filmed at half the frame rate and then sped up, and it isn’t even noticeable.
